Board Member - Michael Stewart
Bonjour, je m’appelle Michael Stewart. I am married to Marilyn and we have 3 lovely girls that are aged 11, 8 and 3. Our eldest was at Banks Avenue but has moved on to Chisnallwood. Our 8 year old is in Roto and our youngest will be attending Pareawa Banks Avenue school, hopefully (time frames allowing) at the new site in a little over 2 years time. I was born here in Otautahi, but raised in Montreal, Canada. I have worked as a FireFighter for a little over 20 years.
I started my firefighting career in the NZ Army at Burnham Camp then moving on to The New Zealand Fire Service which has now changed its name to Fire And Emergency New Zealand, which better tells the story of what we actually do as an organization. I love spending time with family doing anything we can to have a laugh. |
I am a Board Member at Pareawa Banks Avenue and I am on the Health and Safety Committee and the Disciplinary Committee.
As a board member I enjoy being a part of the workings behind the scenes that keeps the school ticking like clockwork. I enjoy the interactions with other board members and seeing that we all have the same goal, to run the school the best way we can for the benefit of our children and their future children. None of this would work without the fabulous team we have at Pareawa Banks Avenue and in my opinion, we have the best teachers and staff around which is why this is such an amazing school.
In my opinion, the only improvement I see benefitting the education system is to depoliticize the education system. Too many politicians have ideas stemming from a monetary agenda where ideas and policy are written to benefit the system, not the children. Who better to ask than the teachers and principals what they need to guide our Tamariki to be the best they can be.
If you see me about, and want to have a chat about the school or anything else don’t be shy.
